не пускает под root

Добрый вечер уважаемые!
Во время установки isc-dhcp42-server-4.2.3_2 выдавало ошибку, поиск привел к решению изменить /etc/nsswitch.conf
было:

group_compat: nis
hosts: files dns
networks: files
passwd: compat
passwd_compat: nis
shells: files
services: compat
services_compat: nis
protocols: files
rpc: files
изменил на :

group: files compat
group_compat: nis
hosts: files dns
networks: files
passwd: files compat
passwd_compat: nis
shells: files
services: compat
services_compat: nis
protocols: files
rpc: files

после чего dhcp успешно установился и заработал.
стали сыпаться ошибки что nsswitch.conf это не устраивает, вернул как было и перезагрузил и вот тут то стало страшно, через ssh su пишет:

через консоль тоже рута не пускает.

ну а в /etc/passwd чего есть? рут-то там есть?
Бог создал людей сильными и слабыми. Сэмюэл Кольт сделал их равными...

mount -u
mount -a /
vi /etc/nsswitch.conf

вроде так в режиме Fixit

помогло, но почему раньше было:

passwd: compat
это значит что кто то изменил, хотя доступ у меня одного (ранее до установки dhcp установка с портов была без проблем)?
