делаю связку windows + ssh +freebsd

вхожу как пользователь XXXXXX
так как root напрямую запрещен
в каталоге /home/XXXXX/.ssh/ лежит публичный ключ authorized_keys

при входе через идет показ имени пользователя XXXXXX
и окно putty закрывется
в логах putty
Using username "XXXXX".
No supported authentication methods left to try!

подскажите куда копать?

ну судя по всему косяк в настройках самой putty, а точнее чтото ты намудрил/либо неправильно выставил параметры шифрования/аутентификации в putty

Обсолюно не правда!!!!
Берёшь пабликовсий ключь сгенериный putty и кладешь его оброзно в файл key далее набираешь и получешь удовольствие
